Bristol Energy Network

Bristol Energy Network is a community led organisation supported by community and public / private organisations from across the city. An action based network of dynamic groups which promotes change through the development of energy based ideas into projects.

Their aim is to implement their community energy strategy, the 1st in the UK, so that people have affordable low carbon energy whilst bringing an end to fuel poverty in the city region. They plan to launch a comprehensive energy champions’ campaign to make sure everybody can take part during the year.

Bristol 2015 Euopean Green Capital Award is a platform to really reach out across the city and make sure everybody is involved from our communities, schools, universities and businesses.

Made up of small and large community groups in the region; including Bristol Green Doors, Bristol Energy Coop, Bristol Power Coop, each make a difference in their community whether tackling fuel poverty, installing renewable and energy saving technologies or providing educational projects. Easton Energy Group recently launched Warm Up Bristol with Bristol City Council, the largest retrofit programme in the UK, with a whole street being retro fitted with external wall insulation demonstrating that even the solid walled Victorian properties across the city can be energy efficient and more comfortable to live in.

As a “community group” without a fixed abode each area group works with their community buildings to improve energy efficiency, for example, Hillfields Energy Group recently had a request to undertake an energy survey of their local Scout Hut and Bristol Energy Network will be working with the city council and local energy coops to put solar on many of the community buildings across the city, improving their energy efficiency whilst engaging the community.
