Green Capital Digital Challenge

Do you have a great idea for how software can be used to tackle environmental challenges in cities?

If you do, take part in the Bristol 2015 European Green Capital Digital Challenge

We are recruiting professional teams to participate in the Green Capital Digital Challenge. This Challenge will offer a cash prize of £50,000 to stimulate innovation in the development of software applications and games, addressing five environmental challenges: energy, transport, food, resources and nature.

This Challenge will be run in two stages: Stage 1 will start in January 2015 and culminate in a 48-hour Digital Challenge Hack Weekend, with judges selecting between 3-6 finalists. Stage 2 will see the Digital Challenge Final and Awards Ceremony hosted at the Youth Summit on 20 April 2015. The Green Capital Digital Challenge Weekend will be a key component of Digital Bristol Week produced by the BBC and partners.

Teams of up to 5 developers will come together over the weekend of 6-8 February at Bristol’s Watershed to create apps/games, competing for a prize of £50,000 to develop the full product.  Up to 6 shortlisted teams from the Hack Weekend will receive £5,000 each to develop the idea further with the winner announced at Colston Hall on 20th April. There will also be a People’s Choice Award of £10,000.

Visit the registration page to express your interest in being selected to attend as a team as we need to ensure we have a good mix of teams working on each environmental challenge. The deadline for expressions of interest will be 1 January 2015 and the selected teams will be notified by 16 January 2015.
