So what is Bristol 2015 anyway?

In a nutshell…

This glorious, diverse, bustling city we call Bristol has been awarded the title of European Green Capital 2015.

This is a rather prestigious feather in our cap that has been won by major capital cities like Stockholm and Copenhagen in the past.

That’s great. But how did we win?

Well for starters, Bristol is the nation’s greenest city. We cycle more, recycle more, and use less energy than our neighbours in other major UK cities.

But what impressed the award committee wasn’t just what we’re doing but how we’re doing it…

Bristol wasn’t built with sustainability in mind. But thanks to our citizen’s hard work and smart thinking, we’ve unearthed lots of clever ways to reduce our environmental impact piece by piece.

And this grassroots approach is something every urban centre can look at and learn from (hence the whole capital city thing).

Got it. But what does this all mean to me?

So here’s the big idea: we’re planning to use 2015 as the springboard to take a big leap forward on Bristol’s sustainability journey.

And it’s a journey we hope you’ll enjoy being part of.

Throughout the year, there’ll be a calendar of events celebrating sustainable living. We’re also providing new investment to help bring your ideas to life and building a platform to promote your actions on the global stage.

You’ve made a believer out of me. So how can I get involved?

There are plenty of ways you can be part of Bristol 2015.

If you’ve got an idea for a new project, you can apply for one of our Bristol 2015 grants. If you want to volunteer your time, get in touch with one of our community officers. And if you just want to know more about sustainability, keep an eye out for one of our many events.

But above all, we hope you take pride in being a big part of the reason Bristol won European Green Capital 2015 in the first place.

Thank you.
